Mr. Philip serves as a Honorary Senior Lecturer, School of Clinical Sciences, University of Bristol. He was awarded the Doctor of Medicine (MD) by the University of Liverpool in 2010 for his research into urinary bladder cancer ‘Phenotypic Profile and Biomarker Expression Analysis of Human Urinary Bladder Cancers’.
Mr. Philip has authored over 50 scientific papers in peer-reviewed international urology journals and is involved in clinical research and multicentre clinical trials for cancer and stone studies; and regularly presents scientific papers at international Urology meetings. He was the recipient of the 2012 TUF (The Urology Foundation) preceptorship.
His scientific research on stone procedure related hospital stay, treatment outcome and innovating new surgical procedures have resulted in international awards. He was awarded the best abstract at the 31st European Urology meeting in Munich (2016) for his work on rendezvous ureteric re-alignement; and recognized presentations by his trainees at the European Urolithiasis meeting 2015, World Congress of Endourology 2015, American Urology Annual meeting 2015 and British Association of Urological Surgeons annual meeting 2015. Other areas of research interest include reducing recurrent stone risk, improving treatment success and natural remedies.
Mr. Joe Philip is a specialist surgical trainer involved in the training of specialist trainees in urology and runs a fellowship program for endourology with Mr. Anthony Timoney and Mr. Francis Keeley. He is on the Faculty for Urology Courses for trainees, Specialist Stone courses and the regional Specialty Registrar training days.
